Before class on your own, about 10 minutes

1. 01Find your laptopMac or Windows. Not a Chromebook, iPad or phone. A work laptop that blocks installs won't work.
2. 02Subscribe to Claude Pro$20/month, paid to Anthropic at claude.com/pricing. Cancel any time. The free plan does not include the tool we use. Price checked October 2026.
3. 03Check your video and screen shareClass runs on a video call. The class link is emailed to you before class. When it arrives, open it once and try sharing your screen.
4. 04Write one sentence"I want an app that ___." Bring it to class.

Together, in the first 30 minutes 8:00 to 8:30 PM Central (7:00 to 7:30 PM Mountain)

5. 05Install the Claude desktop app and sign inFrom claude.com/download. Click the Code tab at the top. If it asks you to upgrade, step 2 isn't finished.
6. 06Make an empty folderOn your Desktop, called my-first-app. In the Code tab choose Local, then Select folder, then that folder.
7. 07Type "say hello" and send itIf Claude answers, you are ready to build.
8. 08Create a free Cloudflare account and confirm itThis is where your website goes live at the end of class. Signing up takes an email address and a password, and Cloudflare emails you to confirm the address, so have your inbox open. We use Cloudflare's Free plan. Checked October 2026.
9. 09Find where you will publishIn your Cloudflare account, open Workers & Pages. At the end of the hour you drop your my-first-app folder there and get your link. No terminal.

You don't need to do steps 5 to 9 ahead of time. If you want a head start, go ahead; we still check each one with you. Optional, after class: connecting a domain you own (see the FAQ). Vercel is another place to put an app online. Its free Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial projects only, so a business app needs a paid plan there. A GitHub account is not needed for class.
